War and Memory

The war entered my work not as a subject I chose, but as a reality that became part of my life and my art. I keep returning to scorched earth, remnants, traces, absence and presence, and the attempt to understand how places and materials carry memory within them.

I work with paint and materials that have had a previous life – jute, fabric, threads, wood, earth, stones, rusty nails, torn fragments, and various found materials. Tearing, burning, stitching, and joining are not merely techniques; they become part of the language of the work.

Alongside the wounds, signs of continuity appear again and again: a plant left standing, a sprout, a flower, a new connection where something was torn. I do not seek to beautify the wound or to close it, but to leave room for what was lost, for what continues to live alongside it, and for hope for a better future.
